The big question.

Yes.

That's the answer to everyone's question about whether or not we are going to restart the game. Once we are comfortable with how the game is performing we will reset the game.

We are expecting that it will be in the middle of next week. We will give everyone at least 24 hours notice before we make the switch. Stay tuned for more details.

i am a sheep said...: I am just about considering giving up on this garbage. Had they announced a reset yesterday, I'd have been happy. But not now. Some people have bought dozens of streets. And by the middle of next week, it will all be gone.

I, for once, will not be returning to this game till this reset is over. What is the point? Anything I have done or do in the next few days will all amount to nothing, so I might as well save myself some time and effort.

People are creating 50-100 accounts buying cheap streats on their main account and selling them to the alt accts for 1.5x the value earning money by cheating. They're also generating a ton more destruction cards and using them to make other players quit the game so they can take over their streets as well. And by the way, since there's nothing in the rules about multiple accounts and nothing in there about non-arms length transactions, how exactly is any of it cheating? Cheating requires a rule break. There is no rule, therefore no cheating.

And no, it's not semantics. Every other mulitplayer game I've ever seen not only specifies what conduct is and isn't allowed, it also monitors for it (ie no trades between people on the same ip address).

If you're looking to change features (which I doubt you are at this time...) I would appreciate it if you could:

- Allow the sale of a street for any amount of money. As someone with a hazard on it and strapped for cash, it's tough to find a buyer that is going to pay retail. Similarily, if someone owns a very popular street and someone sees it as a great investment to pay 5x or 10x current value to entice the seller to sell, then free market should dictate.

- Not sure how, but if you could eliminate the multiple accounts that pour into a single super account, that would be great! How? Not sure... but maybe an email association or tie to something like a google account would go along way in cutting out the many dummy accounts.

- Great work everyone!!!! Very impressive improvements in a short amount of time. The number of transactions must be astounding!

- For the IT geeks, can you post more details on this site or another? Transactions/second, total number of objects in the game, etc...

Some people actually got their accounts hijacked, sometimes all their streets sold before they could even recover it.

Some people used the game's flaws to make tons of accounts and buy a lot of streets. (and yeah there should be RULES about that, and activity trackers)

if they allow people to sell streets for any value, i can buy a 100,000 street on my main account and sell it for 3,000,000 to a new acct i just made

it's not hard to stop multi-accounting. 1 account per IP address. if they allow more than 1 account per IP then do not let accounts with the same IP interact with each other. SIMPLE SOLUTION! sure people will try proxies or using other IP masking tools but they can be weeded out as they come.

if 25 accounts all the sudden buy streets from 1 account, it should throw off a red flag and lead to an investigation.

You need to know they are inactive, but if you see someone who's not growing in $$, odds are good they've stopped. So get in there and offer the required minimum on the properties you want, is what I'd do.

As for IP limits, sadly you cannot rely on that. Many ISPs proxy their clients, so these clients show up as one IP on CityStreets. Banning all trading on one IP will solve multi accounters, but it will hurt even more. Most people play in the city they live in, so they trade in that city. Odds are, some of those players will have the same IP.

I seem to be able to only "sell" one building per session. So if I want to sell 2 small buildings in order to 'upgrade' to a larger one, I have to sell one, log out, and log back in before I can remove a 2nd building.

If I want to replace cottages with something larger, like a stadium, I have to go through this 3 or 4 times until I have room for the larger building, and hope that no one drops a hazard in there in the meantime.

The way things are now, once the game is reset, all streets will be bought again in one or two days. After that, even though people have a lot of money, no one will be willing to sell anything.
This will happen for two main reasons: 1)There is not a sink for the money. People constantly get more money, but have no expenses. This generates inflation, leading to 2)Prices won't go up because there is a cap on the transaction value of 1.5 the purchase value of the streets. With this, people will seat on money mountains, but will have nothing to buy.

Some possible solutions for this problem are:
1)Greatly reducing the amount of money received at the beggining and each day and/or raising the prices of streets
2)Greatly increasing the number of available streets in the game

The next day, when I did get to start playing the game, I saw many streets were available and I really enjoyed the game, and so I changed my vote for the servers not to be reset. I'm concerned that many people voted at first like me, but then did not change their votes if they thought the game play was fair.

To satisfy the most possible players of the game, a better survey needs to be made.

Simply "reading all of the comments," in no way gives an accurate summary of people's opinions; it only gives accounts of the most opinionated.

Make a new survey, find out about the gamers, find out how they feel about the current situation, how they feel about future scenarios, their opinions on rules and fairness of the game, and what they think should be done.

3. half rent twice a day. it's 6am here now and all I can do is surf. it'd be nice to have some cash to do some portfolio building then go to real life work and look forward to some more after 6pm tonight. it doesn't take long to disperse the current days earnings so it's like this 10 minute game each day. boring! halve the rent, double the fun!

Also I would like to point out the game is not fair for those who comes in late. (I know life isn't fair at all. but this really sucks.) Myself is somehow early in the game and all the good streets have been bought and there is no (easy) way that the owner is going to sell the street to you. Because by that time he/she will be wayyyyy much richer than you. So the game is totally like a competition of internet access speed and who's the early bird. (Depending on when the game starts) Believe me, I do see some guys keep sending me offer for one street for the past 48+ hours but do I sell the street to him? Of course not. The poor little guy does not even have one piece of street in his hand.

So until you guys can come up with some "roll-a-dice-and-go" rule, I'd call the game is really beginning to be something. But considering it's only gonna be here for 4 months, I would rather not waste my time begging someone to sell me a street if I come late in the game.

Kick the cheaters off (accumulated wealth $15-20M and up), force everyone under that threshold to update their accounts with an e-mail address, which must be verified within 24 hours or they are booted, also. Anyone signing up new from the "reset point" will have to register with an e-mail, but if they sign up in the first 3 days after the reset point, they'd also get a bonus $8M to give them a chance to catch up to the people, like myself, that have been playing since moment one.

Don't take away my property just because people weren't as patient as myself. All that's doing is discouraging me from playing again, and I guarantee others feel that way, too.; September 11, 2009 1:57 PM

my first account got taken over by someone who used the same name as me. My second account had the same thing happen. so I made a third account with a rediculous name and got to play for two days. I am second on the leader board in my local region and have learned a lot in two days. I embrace the reset, a lot of people couldn't log on I could. A lot of people got their account taken over.

Stop being so selfish over a free game. So what you lost a couple hours of your life. So did I yet I'm not so selfish that i have no empathy for those that couldnt play and most of the prime spots where taken.

Things I would like to see is non player owned streets being auctioned (24 hours) off to give everyone a fair shot at it regardless of the internet connection.

Things to do after you have spent all your money. Maybe a scavenger hunt for chance cards.

Adding sound bites to clicking on things or when buildings are built.

Stopping multiple account swapping of money, only thing I can think of is charging for each account to play.

It's VERY possible to stop multi accounting. I've already given very easy methods to it.

All other online browser games (such as Ikariam) have methods to investigate people using multiple accounts. It's not hard at all to tell when someone is cheating that way.

All they have to do is appoint moderators to help make investigations or actually spend 10 seconds to look at the global top 10 and see they are cheating.

I mean christ your account starts with 3,000,000 right? If you all the sudden jump to 30,000,000 within an hour DING DING DING IT'S 100% CLEAR YOU'RE FREAKING MULTI ACCOUNTING

Further, I suggest to verify the account they take $.01USD from every player, and if they get 1.7 Million players again, take that $17K and donate it to some charity.
