The biggest land grab of 2009...

We ANTICIPATED an opening rush when we launched the Monopoly City Streets online game, but the first few hours have surpassed even our greatest EXPECTATIONS.

We are in the process of increasing our firepower and expect to be running more smoothly within the next several hours.

Thanks for your patience as we work as fast as we can to resolve this and get everyone playing and trading on Monopoly City Streets.

Exceeded your expectations? Have you not seen the other online games do well? Look like Battlefield Heroes & Quake Live... Both had overwhelming responses too.... You guys should know better than that

Hello Hasbro (fyi everyone, this is not a Google product):

With a lot of patience, I've managed to log in and register.

I'm mildly concerned that when I click on "buy" a street, the money comes out of my account, but the streets don't show up in my portfolio of properties.

Is there a place to send questions of this nature? Please post one when you get a chance.

For all of you who are waiting, be as patient as you can, and check out my blog if you're bored: http://rumorsontheinternets.org

@James scroll down the page

Puttzy said...

That is completely understandable but there are still many big issues that frustrate me. The fact that it has to be run full screen to see the login button, the link at the bottom (blog, rules, FAQ, etc) are cut off, etc I find to be very rudimentary errors and something I would expect to see from such large names. Good luck in getting everything working.

My-Memories said...

A letter to you guys :

Guys, since most famous and good streets are taken up, there's no use to ask the developer to fasten up their pace.

What we should do now is to wait patiently.

A check just now when I managed to log in shows that even some unpopular streets in Singapore are being sold already.

So...

Rest well guys ! Take some sleep if you need (Esp. if you are in Asia) ! Just check back tomorrow and hopefully things will be fine :D

It may be sensible to reset the clocks and aquisitions once the site is running smoothly, i.e. have a registration and familiarisation period, followed by a massive land grab in which everyone has equal chances, rather than letting the lucky few sitting next door to your exchange, er, monopolise the best locations before anyone else gets a look in...

I hope Hasbro do not reset it. I've woke up at 8 and spent 2 hours with 5 browser all refreshing to get through and get a decent street. Besides resetting won't help, the problem lies with everyone trying to register and buy at once. Once the initial phase die downs, it will run smoothly. It's pointless for Hasbro and Google to put so many servers up for the initial phase since after a week, the server will be able to handle the stress load.

To those who can't load it, have you guys try using other web browsers? I've found out the most effective browser is IE8 because it actually took me a few refresh no more than 10 before I got onto the registration and started purchasing. Second is Chrome since it actually load the page a few times. The worse was actually firefox since it couldn't even load it up after 100 refresh. I've been through many heavy traffic situations such as mad scramble for free PSN codes. Firefox is terrible in heavy traffic situation.

Christopher Hooper said...

they might reset it.... see poll on blog homepage for evidence, if you need it.

@Anyone who actually got into the game:

Yeah, apparently searching the streets *works* but it takes forever, just let it wait. I finally got deeds popped up with a buy option, and am currently waiting for my registration to go through... if it ever does.

Again, try the address http://www.monopolycitystreets.com/game.html#en, as the default http://www.monopolycitystreets.com just goes to an Apache test page. (Which I'm sure is a way to reduce server loader)

loveandwhiskey said...

what a waste of time so far. i'm exhausted from consistently trying to make it work, but it won't let me buy any streets at all. Just my 2 cents.

And yes, I got a couple good streets.

Aulo said...

Truly a launch failure to be remembered for a LONG time! I hope they just move their code to Google servers rather than buy a few additional crap boxes their own.

Ashley said...

Why not allow users to login and register a few days before game play actually starts. I've played similar games at www.pickteams.com that allows uses to register and get acquianted with the board and set up before play actually begins. This might help with the traffic flow because you won't have everyone trying to register and check it out all at the same time ... many of whom will probably never log back in to play.

Lynxus said...

Thats BS, they shouldnt reset the game.
The only people voting on that are peopel ere with problems.

ALL the other people managed to play fine.
it just means then that all the hard work that EVERYONE has put into it trying to get on has been for nothing.

What a waste of time.
For people it worked for and people it didnt.

Henry said...

@Amit
Agree, all it took was patient, you refresh it once and wait a few minutes for it to load. There are many ways to get a webpage to properly load from different browsers to the way you type the url. I'm sorry for those who couldn't get in right away but this is how big launches work.

The ONLY reason the poll is showing reset is because this is mainly full of people who cant get on.

I bet theres MANY MANY MANY more people playing who dont want it reset and are not here to say so!!!!

Ill say it again. When I read the comments of people asking to reset it I just dont know what to think. Are they really talking from a "Fair" point of view? Or they just want a second chance to get the streets they wanted? I have tried god damn hard all the day long, to get my streets, and if I could not get the ones planned, I just tried different ones... as easy as that. Reseting? Really? Why?

Frustrating....

Go look at New York. People have already started, I've already started. Patience is key to loading anything with a big launch. It would be unfair to those who wasted hours trying to register and actually got something. Sure I didn't get my first, second, or third choice but I've sucked it up and got something similar to what I've want. I'm sure most of you can find something you want when the servers are working. Even if they reset it, everyone is still going to make that mad dash to get it and will only create more frustrations.

lolololol... get a life everyone.. really!

They should rolled it out country by country first. Instead of going world wide all at once. An they should of had a descent beta instead of inviting lazy journalist to check it out.

@ Amit, there are people that have wasted hours and still have nothing, thanks to these dumb asses opening five windows at the same time overloading the servers.

@Ashley,

Absolutely correct - you should be able to register before the game goes live. That's how the pros do it...

The folks who managed to get in is not because they had patience alone. They also were close enough to the servers hosting maybe.
This is not fare for others. I have a 7Mbps connection in US and i was not able to get past the start play screen. Also to add to the fact, they started hours b4 the announced time!

Btw: EPIC FAIL from Harbor lolololol

@markitoxs

I agree, I havent got what i wanted, however ive now got new ones that i want and i would like to keep.

What sthe point of pissing off more people!!!

Thats all they are going to do.

Currently lets say 50% are pissed off ( considering the non pissed people are not here )

If they reset , they will then piss off another 50%

HASBRO! please think carefully!

@Henry, it doesn't just take patience. I've been refreshing all morning and haven't gotten in once except when it very first initially opened and then wasn't able to do anything because it couldn't connect to the server from in the game.

So no, it's not just patience. When you're getting a server connection error, you can't just wait a few minutes for it to load.

Somehow I don't buy the BS. It's seems everytime something like this comes along "there is a problem with the system and we didn't expect this kind of traffic". Bull Crap!! By the time it is available to real people all of the good stuff will be gone. You SUCK!!!! Do some load testing before you even advertise the game you idiots don't do it on the morning of release.

"I hope Hasbro do not reset it. I've woke up at 8 and spent 2 hours with 5 browser all refreshing to get through and get a decent street."

Nothing more to add. In which way reseting datas would be fair ?

DO NOT RESET!

I HAVE 4 ACCOUNTS AND 6 GREAT STREETs and A LOT OF BUILDINGS ON IT...

Lot of time and pacience to get all this.
Please, DO NOT RESET

NOT RESET! NEVER

Mister Red said...

The start value of a street is determined by length, not location. Did you think it was possible to index real-world property values for every street on the face of the world? I'd think not, especially for a free game with a four month life expectancy.

You're not missing out on much if you haven't been able to start yet. Streets like Broadway, Hollywood Boulevard, or the Vegas Strip may conjure illusions of granduer, but it has no effect on the game.

Your street will be valuable if it's long (letting you place more buildings, which is how you make money) and if it's surrounded by other properties with buildings on it.

By that reasoning, a lengthy stretch of road in Iowa could become more valuable than Wall Street in Manhattan.

Cool your jets and wait for the game. Don't fuss about it being unfair that some people got to start before you, because arguing for a reset is just an opportunity for you to jump ahead of other people.

I can't even load the monopolycitystreets.com website.

@Lynxus: if people had streets they wouldn't ask for a reset! That's logic!
Even now I find interesting streets.
