The site will be going down today between 10-11 AM eastern time for about 3 hours. When it comes back up, we will have implemented procedures to start dealing with the cheating that has been widely reported.
Also, many of you have asked for clarification about how many accounts one person can have on the game. The rules state (just like Monopoly) that there should be only one game per person. However, to accommodate families and others who might be playing together, we do allow up to 5 players per computer. We ask that those playing the game honor these rules. We will begin deleting accounts if we discover anyone abusing these rules.
Thanks for your continued patience and honest feedback.

about the profiles, my internet connection servers more than 5 monopoly players (open wireless etc) - can't rules about accounts per computer be less strict?

How about giving me back the $200,000,000 in buildings you stole from me last night during this maintenance?
My $59 million street is empty, despite spending 4 hours yesterday putting up over 100 biano blancos and spending numerous other hours putting up geen houses and bonus buildings.
If being successful is cheating, then ban my account. Don't steal my hard work with no explanation, you arrogant twits.
Lol would you like some more cheese with that whine?
Cool, so since I have 5 computers at home with diffrent IP's I can comfortably play with 25 accounts. Thanks for the clarification Mr. Monopoly and crew.
Bonjour,
I use a computer which is connected to other PC with the same IP and my colleagues play too.
Angry man john. cry more elsewhere
You guys talking about whining, you have to admit these "developers" are dropping the ball repeatedly.

This is the first substantive post regarding multi accounting I've seen. So now we finally know -- two weeks into the game.
For the record, I couldn't find these rules about 1 game per person anywhere. Maybe its there somewhere but I cant find it.
Yes you can play 5 accounts. That is the rule. I think that is fair and reasonable, but policing it will be difficult.
I still think we need a reset however. The world is corrupted by the early cheating and there is no un-doing that, except by a complete wipe.

Cool I'll create 10 VMWARE workstations and have a total of 50 accounts :P
Thanks Mr Monopoly :P
Great! I guess I can safely add one more account before you start cracking down. *rolls eyes*
At least my accounts don't interact or all share the same leaderboard. Time to decide where I want to set up #5... =P
No, seriously. That's what people are going to think now that you've announced a five account limit. The bright side is, it'll keep people playing your game longer. The dark side is, people will abuse this and make accounts interact and build up a single account and use them all to attack other players. Sad stuff. =\
Developers, that's a start but you need to put in checks to not allow trading or selling then buying from the bank between the same IP.
There are enough other users in the world to trade with if you are legitimate player.
I'm not able to take rent due to maintenance. Is it able to auto-pay me this day?
Frankly, there is NO WAY that someone can amass billions of dollars and moving them so quickly from one account to another, judging from the cheat accounts activities. There must definitely be flaws in the programming that allows the cheaters to directly change the amount instantly. The activities are just to fool the system that the account is normal, not justifying the money.
So to stop REAL cheating, you may have to do system wide checking for the flaws that cheaters inject accounts directly with money.
And for all honesty, you may need to set another time for resetting the game so everyone can start from same level, instead of someone already having billions from previous rent scam and cheating accounts buying out all the high price streets, while honest players are shut out from these high return streets and may take years just to amass a billion!
Taxation should be changed to progressive as it is in the real life.
1-5 streets: 0% tax
6-10 streets: 3% tax after the 5th streets!
11-20 streets: 6% tax after the 10th streets
So having 15 streets is not 90% tax as it is similar today but 5*0+5*3=5*6=45%
Let's have another POLL for the next RESET!
sounds good! can't wait for the leader board to be cleared of cheaters.
To all the complainers out there... how can you complain about something free?! You didn't pay any money for it, so just don't play if you don't want to. The fact that you're still around here posting and playing is proof you enjoy the game.
Just enjoy it for what it is. An awesome monopoly styled game where the rules can change at any time... much like real life!
> There are enough other users in the world to trade with if you are legitimate player.
I doubt there will be much trades between strangers unless its about streets in NYC, London, etc. There's no way to say "Hey, buy my street! It's cheap!". Whoever would buy a remote street could as well buy a new street.

I really want to know what method you used to check. IP ? My company over 3000 staff....ALL using the same IP address to go for Internet, then all account will block/delete ?
And BTW, you should start a new game in every month or 2 weeks period.. thus you can fine tune the game and not changing the rules during the game...
I don't really get how they tell who's having more than 5 accounts. I get a different IP from my ISP each time I turn on my computer/router/modem combo, so first, I could set up many more accounts, but second, I could be accused of cheating because someone else set up 5 account with the same IP, too.
Well, I guess, if they ban me for nothing, it's probably a good thing not to waste more time with a crappy game.
@Hack
The fact that you're still around here posting and playing is proof you enjoy the game.
No, it is a proof that playing Monopoly on a Google map actually is a powerful idea that excites many people. The fact that so many are here complaining shows that the game itself is very poor.
Okay, reposting here as the previous thread will see little new activity:
Monopoly is supposed to be a game where you whet your capitalistic acumen and beat the competition. It is not a game of socialist or communist cooperation. In a capitalistic society (or system), you succeed by leveraging an advantage over someone else. That advantage can be financial, better strategy, pure luck, superior earning assets, or a combination of many additional variables.
If you have sufficient acumen and luck, you may end up monopolizing an industry. Let’s remember that that is the basic tenant of the Monopoly board game--the domination of the market by a single entity governed by a set of clearly defined, unchanging rules.
So, whereas a game’s playing field must be leveled at the start--everyone has the same amount in their bank or each team has zero points--the true fun comes from discovering a market’s inequities (or the weakness of the opposing team) and quickly leveraging that knowledge to your advantage.
When the rent per square foot per building type is the same on a small street as a large street, the playing field remains constantly leveled and the skill at spotting and exploiting market inequities is moot. When the rules change instantly overnight, then time spent on strategy is wasted.
In other words, for a game that is supposed to be all about market exploitation and dominance, a constantly level playing field and morphing rules ruins the fun.
I know for a fact that a large amount of the United States military's internet traffic goes through a very small handful of IPs. Many major corporations are the same. On my network, we have 1,800 users who access the public internet through three IPs. Our partner company has about 20,000 going through 6 IPs.
Good luck with that.
Why would you say 10-11am EST when the game standard is GMT?????????
Can somebody translate please.
----------------------------------------------
I also agree that banning trading between same IP address would elimante most cheaters.
what time monopoly use? the game will be back at ... when?

That translates to "Now." How did you manage to post in a blog if you can't google for time zones?

10am EST is 3pm GMT is 5pm in Hamburg.

How about changing the tax rate based on street length.
Make the rent income higher on longer streets (like 6M or 24M streets) again, but lower taxing on short streets so that they will be a bit more attractive too

We don't really want another reset. I'm hardly doing very well what with not cheating but I don't want to start again again!!
WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?!!
WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?!!
WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?!!
@google.20.katzkit
It's not that he enjoys the game, it's probably what the rest of us are still here for. Most of us enjoy elements of the game, and are hoping that others will improve.
Comments like "you're still here" or "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" or "cheese with whine" are just as bad as the outright flames. They're non-productive.
People are obviously upset over the rent multiplier being normalised. It's an obvious step backwards that removes the capitalist aspect of the game. It's what made the game very exciting for everyone who played it durring those few days. It a feature that should be tweaked, but not normalised.
An example of normalising monopoly would be to take a monopoly board and replace every street in the game with baltic avenue. Pretty boring.
Any step the developers take to combat cheaters, will just be circumvented. It's a wasted effort. The only real way to limit, but not eliminate cheating is to make the game a pay service. It would help durring beta if they had offered up beta keys through a service like fileplanet or something, where the signup is a chore.
The whole banning multiple accounts from a single IP is not going to work. A lot of people play this game from work, or school and thus will have the same IP. For example, there are at least 15 people where I work that play this game, which is far beyond the 5 allowed in the rules. They're all individuals playing their own accounts, but they're all under the same IP.
And what if at work, we all have the same public IP, and there's 20 people playing?
Clarify that statement. You have no idea how many computers are connected to a single IP address.
I am quite sure you mean 5 accounts per IP address, but you were unable to specify that.
And to the people who claim to have multiple IP addresses: Most likey you only have multiple local network IP addresses. Those are not visible to the rest of the internet and thus don't play any role in this.
@Tapewormz
> "Comments like "you're still here" or "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" or "cheese with whine" are just as bad as the outright flames. They're non-productive."
I didn't make the quotation clear, but read my post again, I'm exactly saying that "you're still here" is not an argument.
Hack said: "The fact that you're still around here posting and playing is proof you enjoy the game."
I said: "No, it is a proof that playing Monopoly on a Google map actually is a powerful idea that excites many people. The fact that so many are here complaining shows that the game itself is very poor."
So it's 1 account per player, max 5 accounts per computer or connection?
Fair enough. I saw someone complaining about coming from free wifi... I really don't think that'd be a problem, the game is not THAT popular is it?
Anyway if Mr. Monopoly wants to help out dorms and the like, I think it could be done like on many IRC networks, by registration. A group of people on the same connection send a mail so some email account asking for 10, 20 or maybe 100 accounts permission. Mr. Monopoly makes an exception in the checking mechanism and the IP is noted down together with the email address. If anything ever seems suspecious about the players registered from that particular IP, it should be rather easy to investigate. It should of course not be too easy to gain an exception, it needs to seem legit from the start.
Good to see something finally happen... I'm just afraid it's already too late, as the former cheaters have already started distributing their wealth to people with no moral.
Besides, what about the street rent bug that other cheaters have been using? Has it been fixed?
ah and what you do with IP's like University IP's?? block all universities? haha...
At work...please... WORK.
Global crisis is incomed!
I love this blog. Reading the comments and reading "Mr Monopoly's" latest posts have become one of my favorite activities.
It's rare to see a company as large as DDB (Tribal DDB responsible this) fail to such an epic degree - and every day I get online and read the new blog posts and hundreds of comments, it just gets better and better.
Thank you, Tribal DDB, for showing the world exactly how NOT to build a company's brand on the Internet! Too bad all anyone is hearing is "monopoly monopoly monopoly" - which is basically what you were hired to do in the first place.
Astounding. I await the next blog post with baited breath.

@phox. the street rent issue wasn't a bug, it was part of the game. If you bought an expensive street, the buildings were worth more. That was a FEATURE of the game, not a bug. People using that as a strategy were PLAYING THE GAME not cheating.
I did that, I got a huge whack of rent, built more buildings and had them all taken down without explanation last night.
Still waiting for an explanation Mr. Monopoly, you.......
I vote another reset. Fact I think the game shoudl be reset every week - Its only really interesting for the 1st few days.
@spinesheath: And to the people who claim to have multiple IP addresses: Most likey you only have multiple local network IP addresses.
Guess again. I have access to some 60 PCs in my department (german university), and some 500 student lab PCs, all with a unique and static IP.
it doesnt matter how many PC's you have... the IP comes from your ISP.. 1 internet connection 1 IP, unless you keep restarting your Router to try get a fresh IP.
So, anyone trying to play it at work, college, school, shared flat etc will have problems as it comes all under 1 IP..

They will use cookies to identify the same computer and not IP address screening so no worries. (Obviously there is an easy workaround to get a rid of it as well)
Disable the trading completely! All the tradings must be via the bank ONLY - that is the only good, fully complete and cheap solution.
Surely that tack will get you the explanation you want. The only thing worse than your attitude is my self-centeredness and immodesty of pointing out my superiority over you.
Please don't reset again, I don't want all of my works done become disappeared. I spent more than 3 hours a day without sleep to build green houses and bonus building on the street because the high rent before...your excellent deflation make me earn less....
Someone who spent less effort to this game see what we have done well want to reset again........
I must not play again if the game reset again. I don't know when you will reset the third time, forth time, fifth time........
POOR MANAGEMENT OF THIS GAME!
It always was five accounts and it was always was easy to get around.
The only way to stop cheating is to stop street trades all together. OR have some new feature like an auction room to sell streets, which takes a whole week to process in which time ANYBODY can make bids for he street.
5 accounts. Awesome. Me and 4 "other players" at Starbucks will form an alliance. Trade properties amogst ourselves and pool our hazard and demo cards. All within the official rules.
@fansu- so did I. How come your buildings weren't taken by Mr. Monopoly in the middle of the night? I lost 200 green houses, 180 bianco blancos and 28 bonus buildings. At least 10 hours of work to build those, and no explanation as to why my street is now empty.
Do I rebuild? Will Mr. Monopoly steal $200,000,000 worth of buildings from me again?
as mentioned disable trading. This is the best solution.
Afterall, its very unlikely that anyone would want to legitimately trade anyway, since the rent is always higher than the street values.
To offer an acceptable amount it is just as easy to buy a new street and build.
Disable trading and then fix the negative offer bug and go back to the higher value streets = better rent and we have a workable game.
Just dont make rent exponential squared.
I cannot believe how many people become so angry over Monopoly City Streets... people need to stop acting on their emotions, and start commenting in a constructive manner that will actually HELP gameplay. At least the monopoly people are trying to improve the state of the game... the same thing happens with EVERY OTHER online game (ie: patches are introduced, etc. etc.)
So, as another commentator before me stated: "Stop Whining!" and if you have something to say, at least have the courtesy to say it a way that will be able to contribute to improving the game.
@John - You spent ten hours playing Monopoly City Streets?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH get a life dude, you probably smell terrible.
Oh, how I would like to be a fly on the wall when Tribal gets the call to say they have just disqualified the whole of Hasbro head office for multi account dealing because they share 1 IP
@ Develporers Thank you making the accounts rule clear.
@ everyone else
Stop whining most players whining have way to much time on there hands good lord how could you play say 10 accounts a day anyway it takes me a couple hours to play just one account longer if the kids are standing over me waiting there turn to play
3 hours of Maintenance!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ????????????
Life's Rough, Lighten Up - the real world changes as well.
PLEASE Publish a full set of detailed rules!
Strategy, collaboration, some analysis of ROI, thinking outside the box, and most importantly success, should NOT make/define a CHEATER. Please define what is a cheater?
Hacking into your systems - yes. Collaborating players, or multiple accounts - maybe not. In business, multiple legal entities can collaborate on a common goal, and keep their strategy and relationships to themselves. This is the way people behave, and learning these lessons and how to deal with it (e.g. alliances) in the context of a game is good, even better if entertained at the same time. As for me, I'm explaining to my kids the lessons learned here.
@DC
"people need to stop acting on their emotions, and start commenting in a constructive manner that will actually HELP gameplay."
We did. Noone listened. After the game restarted, it took no more than an hour until many people calculated that after 5 days every clever player wuold be a billionaire. Nothing happend. On day 4, the first players (many, but not all cheaters) made the big money. Then they changed the rent system. If these apes read the blog, they could've changed the rent rule in night 1 before it could cause so much difference between rich 500M+ players and those who will have to spend way more time building to get there.
I know trading is a key part of Monopoly but unless they can figure out how to stop cheating of the system, all buying and selling should only be done through the bank.
And I don't know if it is like this right now but even if someone sells to the bank for half price, the person that buys it must pay full price.
@HASBRO- Player to player trades + possibility of unlimited multiple accounts = cheating every time. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

@john : well i just saw a homepage promising to give any street extra rent (up to 1 billion or so) if you gave them the name and earned them some money by answering some surveys. Not being a cheater I didn't try it out tho, cus I don't cheat.
What best cheater and those guys did was more like showing off what you can do with the advantage you get from multiple accounts, allowing you to reach the really interesting highways first. Can't really be mad at them for pointing out that flaw. However, had it been impossible to multiaccount your way up, then I actually think the rent multiplier would be quite fair. As someone else has pointed out, there's now no reason what so ever to pay 100 million for wall st.
What is EASTERN TIME? Never heard of GMT?
Will Best Cheater survive this update?
Vote now at: http://bestcheater.wordpress.com/
@Rob- not 10 hours in a row, man, cumulative. I smell pretty good and have a great life. I just manage it appropriately so that I have some spare time here and there.
Hello i am player this wonderful game but this stopped. I would like understand what "eastern time" mean, East of what?
I am familiar with Greenwich Meridian Time the GMT but don't know East of where??
to players: be patient, this is a new game and developers are doing their best to make it better and more fun
to developers: please make this game more challenging and demanding. make it more sophisticated in sense that one should put in more thought and develop a STRATEGY on how to take over others.
A mere acquisition of a street and filling it up with real-estate is not enough,
there should be building maintenance costs,
depreciation,
salvage value,
location and nearby infrastructure that affects the cost of rent,
types of buildings that is profitable to build in certain areas,
development of rural areas or clustering too much the urban area,
building permits,
and much, much more can be done.
I am sure we will see at least another 12 resets before the game becomes supreme. Not a problem, go ahead, those who like it will stick around.
Sincerely,
Greg
P.S. playing this game inspired me to look into playing the real world real-estate game ...
THANKS !
Hi, How can I own an entire city if taxes take all my money?
What incentive would I have to waste hours buying one house at a time to fill a long steet?
I think your Risk board game would be much more fun and better for this online game model.

It's not the multi account players that allow such humungous scores so rapidly - it's the software flaws that allow hackers to run scripts (or whatever they are doing). How else could "Cheater1 Cheater2 etc" accumulate big scores so quickly. Unless Mr Monopoly fixes those flaws it will be useless to compete for Global leadership.
This is an awesome concept - if you like the game, play for the Local leadership. If not, don't play - but stop whining about all the money you have lost - you haven't lost anything - ITS PLAY MONEY PEOPLE!
If you know to stop these Geeks from hacking the game, then offer some constructive help! I don't know enough about hacking to offer that kind of advice but I do know that it's not the multi-accounters that are ruining the game.
"EASTERN TIME IS NEW YORK CITY TIME. THE TIME ZONE FOR THE EAST COAST OF THE US, WHERE THE MAJORITY OF THE PLAYERS ARE LOCATED."....

@ Hank - "Spoken like a true multi-accounter. welcome" Yes, I have/had multi accounts - 4 of them. And I played a lot but only accumulated $100 mil - not even enough for the Local leadership. Maybe I'm not smart enough to play well but I'm not even close to the hackers.
But I still enjoy the game.
@ policeman - thanks for the explanation. It's the technique that Cheater1 etc used that has to be stopped. The multi accounting that I tried to use will not even come close.
@The Policeman, So is multi-accounting a Glitch too. Cause I am banking the 'he' double 'll' out of that one.
People keep talking about:
Developers
Game
Rules
When they should be talking about:
Advertisers
The Advertisement
Product
Seriously, this isn't a game. It's an Ad. DDB isn't a game developer, they're an Ad firm.
Which stands to directly counter the "what do you expect for free" people. If a TV show if "free" I expect to pay for it by having to watch the Ads shown. But what if there is no TV show? What if it's just a pure Ad?
Think of it this way...nobody on this dev team is going to use MCS on their resume to get a job developing games. They're going to use it to get another job in advertising. They'll say "Who cares about EPIC FAIL...look at all the people on the blog!".
If you want a quality game, start with a quality game company. If you want a quality ad, start with Chiat/Day.
Okay, this is my last bit of feedback. I'll sit back and see how this all plays out over the next several days. I'll decide whether or not it makes sense to continue playing based on your actions to users' feedback.
So here goes nothing:
I’m truly looking for answers and not trying to nitpick. To me, your “clarification” of the rules is not clarifying.
You state that, “many of you have asked for clarification about how many accounts one person can have on the game. The rules state (just like Monopoly) that there should be only one game per person. However, to accommodate families and others who might be playing together, we do allow up to 5 players per computer.”
Hum? So traditional Monopoly mandates that each player can only control (play) once piece per game. But you are relaxing this rule to allow for families and “others” to play together.
What does that mean? Does it mean that two or more family members or friends can get together, can team up and register a “superuser” account that is akin to forming a corporation? If so, this could mean that a given individual could have one single-player account and any number of partnership accounts. The limiting factor then, is simply how many computers to which a person has access.
Furthermore, what does, “we do allow up to 5 players per computer” actually mean? We have four computers in our household. Irrespective of the IP issue, does that mean that just from within our house, we each can have a separate account per computer? After all, a “player” is not the same thing as a unique person.
So, is our house legally allowed to generate up to 20 accounts (4 computers x maximum of 5 players per computer)? Of course, as others have stated there’s absolutely no way for you to determine this and it is just, as you state, up to each player to “honor these rules”.
Other than the totally clear and unambiguous rule that “each player can only control (play) once piece per game,” your “clarified” rules are about as clear as mud.
Why be such a stickler for proper semantics? Because clear communication is important--especially when stating rules.
If they link accounts to IPs, what happens to users who access the web through a dynamic IP?
With a dynamic IP a new IP is assigned each time you login with your provider or restart your dsl modem.
Or do they plan to alienate these users. I would imagine a large portion of users playing this game are using dynamic IPs.
@Policeman. Your time is 4 hours behind, and that is Eastern Time, but not EST. EST is the time you have in NYC during winter. Currently, in NYC, you should have EDT.
I have made multiple accounts and I still don't see how people are trading money or property to get rich. Anyway, Hasbro...way to release a game before it is ready to be released. Think about what you do before you do it. How did this company make so much money? Oh yeah, kiddie toys.

If so, this could mean that a given individual could have one single-player account and any number of partnership accounts."[/I]
Have you ever played monopoly as a board game? Teaming up to combat others is an approved tactic of the game. Rarely have I had a game finish without my siblings making deals to tackle me.
Although I will state this:
The name should be changed to Oligopoly ;).
I think that is unfair, 5 accounts per family?
What will Octomom do??
What will those families with 14 kids do?
It be interesting to see the changes... and how cheating is controlled.
I can't even know how they are cheating...
but getting 120 millions in just 5 days... that is very suspicious...
What on earth is western time? The west of what? What is that compared to GMT or UTC - you know... the STANDARD time used around the world not your silly wishy washy non standard US time.
Please use a time standard that ALL your players can understand. There are people that live in other places to you ya know!
40 minutes ago it was the time.
@william
but getting 120 millions in just 5 days... that is very suspicious...
After 4 days with one account I was due to get 3.8 billion in rent, ended up with 76 million with the rent change. Today I got 140 million. You just had to realise what the old rent multiplier meant and buy big streets. This meant selling everything to the bank every day and buying the biggest street you could find.
@ The Policeman:
It actually makes things more interesting. Alliances don't form until one player is clearly dominant. Once that happens it's either team-up or game-over. Remember that at the end the alliance members will need to duke it out. It adds something to the game.
@ stefragola - LOL!!
I love how everyone assumes they are keeping track of our IP addresses... They are just placing a cookie that prevents the registration screen from coming up a 6th time. Not that I've actually tried to create 6 accounts or anything...
I WILL LAUGH SO HARD IF IT STILL WILL TAKE 1 MINUTE TO BUILD EACH HOUSE..
@Philip- how hard is it to delete cookies. Not very.
i think that the multiaccount creation is a natural thing in this game. My first day: i have my 3 millions, i buy some streets, i build some houses..and i'm locked until tomorrow cause i've no more money. It is natural that i create a second account, buying streets from the first account and giving it money for keeping the game longer without waiting 24 hours. In my opinion, if the rents would be payed not daily, but hourly, or in a continous flow, people would not be frustrated and they could hang around until they have enough money for build a little house or buy a little street.
This is by far the stupidist "juggling act" of online game play & development I believe I have ever experienced. Get a grip and pull it together. If you cant deliver a game as promised, then perhaps instead of "resetting" or performing "maintenece", my suggestion would be to give up; just quit. I would take the site down and never bring it up again. How embarrassing this must be. I'm tired of all the cheating too but how hard could it be to deliver a game that does not allow for cheating. One thing is for sure, this blog & game combination is nothing more than a drama breeding ground. I'm not even sure that I will play anymore and follow the gaming blogs. For me, I think I'm quitting you. Probably for the best. Shameful, too bad the media doesnt report how this site and the game developers have dropped the ball repeadtedly only after publicizing how many people that got to be interested in the game, particularily the 1.7 million that registered in one day, and how this has made their servers crash and how over whelmingit has been for them. what about all of the people (millions) whom have experienced fair game play and not cheated at all; why should they be punished, or hendered in their game play.At this point, I'm not sure who complains more, the developers of the game and this site or the people. I've kept my mouth shut far long enough, and NEVER have complained on a blog before until now. At any rate, good luck to the future of Monopoly City Streets, it's going to need it.

It's really not that hard.

“Have you ever played monopoly as a board game? Teaming up to combat others is an approved tactic of the game. Rarely have I had a game finish without my siblings making deals to tackle me.”
Of course! That is a sound business strategy.
The difference in that scenario is that each partner in your alliance still only controls one piece. What I was referring to is that, based on the newly “clarified” rules, a person could legally control more than one game piece at a time. That would be like you playing Monopoly as both the top hat and the race car at the same time. It is much different than you as just the top hat teaming up with another individual who is just the race car.
So, I guess implementing these magnificent changes has taken an hour (and counting) longer than they thought....
Brilliant. Learn to manage expectations, Mr. Monopoly.
Adam: "I'm tired of all the cheating too but how hard could it be to deliver a game that does not allow for cheating."
@Adam
So if you think it's so easy..maybe you should join the team ;).. lol
I would have been surprised if they managed to be back in time. It's just not their style. But when they're back, they made all the unannounced changes that -- one again -- won't change anything about those guys who cheated a bit and were able to fully use the rent rule that was in place until day 4 to make their billions.
@policeman; Is it really so hard to LOSE THE CAPS? You have a shift key. It would be great if you learned to use it.
@The Policeman: Is it that hard to turn your caps lock off?
@john you are full of crap. No matter how lucky and business savvy you are, mathematically, you can't do much better than doubling or tripling your money daily. If they took $200,000,000 in houses from you this early on, you're a cheater no doubt about it. Anyone on the leaderboards at this time is a cheater, everyone knows it and it ruins the fun for everyone else. So shut up and quit complaining that you got caught, you're not getting your stuff back. THE END
Guys why do we need to use this spot to write all our misery just stop bragging of your shortcomings and make use of your brains to play the game better
When are they gonna start the game its more then 3 hours
It's over an hour since the down was supposed to be over...this means:
Something unexpected has happened
or
They underestimated the amount of time needed
My guess is both. I HOPE that they took a clean backup before starting any work, but I EXPECT they did not...
IT'S BACK :D
Really can't be bothered with this any more. You would have thought that developers would have learned from the mistake of SWG but oh no they are determined to make the same silly errors.
Yes this is free yes it is hard to stop all cheating but come on -ve money offers that's just sloppy testing and coding.
And anyone can tell you that money into a system without money coming out doesn't work at all - actually scrap that the banks/governments haven't so maybe we should give the dev's a break on that one.
For their sake I hope the old adage that there is no publicity like bad publicity is true because really the image being portrayed is not exactly brilliant.
I find it hard for people to complain about cheating when the game includes 'sabotage' and destruction of an owner's property for no reason other than your gain...and not just any property....FAKE property.
I get the game. I like monopoly. It can be fun for a limited time, but seriously, get over it.
Your life is defined by what you do with the time you have on this planet. Time to set aside bickering, stress, and anger over FAKE success.
For families with 8 kids, the parents should divorce like Jon and Kate so they count as 2 separate families, and each parent can share their own computer with 4 kids each.

We've got them to fix monopoly let's find out later just how fixed it is find out on our blog first!
They did not even fix the bug that lets you save a demolition card. Also the account I moved 8 accounts money still exists. Let's see what happens over night.
khaki54- you are a incorrect. HW and I both write on the blog about how it was almost INEVITABLE to become a billionaire, not just possible.
Before the rent change, a green building that cost $50k produced more than $200k in rent on a $50million street. A $600k grid building produced $28 MILLION on a $50 million street.
Go check your homework, son. He doesn't have to be a cheater, he had to have an expensive street and have had to have buildings up before the rent change. Very easy to have earned $200 million, $500 million or more legitimately.
It's sad that people like you, who don't know how to play, label others as cheaters. You probably have a $500k street with million dollar buildings on it. Your lack of knowledge doesn't make others cheaters.
Epic fail.
DO NOT restart, please...
... SHUT DOWN !
Hope that the looser message about maintenance is the end for that game.
Please send Mr. Monopoly back to the High School, (he definitely should be around 16, considering his communication skills in this blog), and try to relaunch a game written for example by university students, if you really don't have any expert at Hasbro.
@ADAM:
Sorry man but if you look for games like World of Warcraft, there's a maintenance each week. So be patient.
@ all:
I enjoy this game but I don't understand one thing... Hasbro "sold" us the game with "build the biggest empire..." But if you own more 38 streets you can't earn more money. Alright... then we should take 5 big streets and develop these as much as possible.... And after we should buy street by street until we will have 37. So... our empire will be not so great...
What about trying to corrupt IRS to still receive our money for one day? When you're so rich and powerfull you always use some undelicate actions to win more money.
But I still have 5 streets... and I'm really far from an empire.
I enjoy this game but I think that some rules are not completely exploited.
You guys DO realize this is just a Beta test for the launch of the pay-per-month version of the game? Seriously, if you clicked the "I read the Terms and Conditions" then please SHUT UP!!! If you clicked it without reading it, YOU are in the wrong, not a free game that offers no prizes.

12 accounts.
@ Policemman - your comments are always relevant. Please clarify if I am wrong but I think @ Stefragola was trying to point out the following:
1- it's a good game concept but boring to sit around after you have played your first day so people create another account to keep playing.
2- he's also saying that "some" people have a natural inclination to cheat
3- You are saying that cheating is not in the "spirit" of the game and I couldn't agree more!
But this game promotes greed - afterall the goal is "Total World Domination"
imho - we have just seen unharnessed greed in the Global financial crisis and the world's Governments had to step in to save the global financial system from collapse. I think we are all asking Mr Monopoly to do the same - create a clear set of rules and the proper game software in order to control the greed. Then we can all enjoy the game on an equal and fair basis.
all my buildings on my street are deleted?
mr monopoly what have you done!
give me back my over 500 buildings!
This whole game is a joke.
I was #1 in my local area since the reset, but I just sold ALL my streets back to the bank, and I QUIT.
Why?
Just before the rent change I had $30,000,000 roughly, in cash. A chance card came along and took more than $25,000,000 of that. WTF? Then the rent increases dropped what should have been about a $100,000,000 payday and brought it down to $7,000,000.
Also, just before the last payday, I had 5 bonus buildings destroyed on my big street, and replaced with a dozen hazards. WTF?? That can't possibly be legit play - has to be cheaters IMO. AND now, how the F am I supposed to get *12* buldozer cards? Seriously?
This is too frustrating, games are meant to be fun, this is no longer fun, therefore I Quit.
Not trying to whine, just stating that the fun is gone and I am moving on.
I can't beleive people are still argueing about the player/account rule. It's VERY SIMPLE.
1 Person = 1 Account.
1 Human Being = 1 Log In.
If you are logging into one account. Then turn around and log into another account, you are cheating. The fact that you need this explained to you means you shouldn't be playing the game.
I wish people would grow up and start playing the game honestly.
Please ban IULIUX. He has 7 streets - 6(!) are protected. And he placed disruptive buildings on 4(!) of 8 streets I (GIGATOM) own.
And if you can: Please undo everything he did.
ALL MY BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN DELETED SINCE THIS 'MAINTENANCE'. I had over 400 on one street. I see one other person reported the same. What is this about?
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/6488/bz88.png
so you still leave him here, grr.
@Greiner (GIGATOM)
Based on what you wrote, "IULIUX" did not break any rules... Whine when 5 bonus buildings are destroyed and 12 hazards placed on the same street in a 1 hour window... When cheating is the result of your pain, then you can complain.
I see that they haven't fixed the unnaceptable delay to build a green houseon a long street. 25 seconds is ridiculous.
Fix it, devs, or shut the POS down.
WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?!!
There is no reason to have more than one account per PC.
Now everyone can say that he has 4 brothers... please!
@policeman: That's the most generic FOAD form email I've seen in ages.
@ The Policeman
well, its a good thing if they follow this blog, IF they do!!!
Wally: lmao, i agree.
@ Wally - no the first street I bought was a 2 million street on the first day and filled it up with houses and the remaining streets were at least that or upwards of 6 million. I'm doing well, but there is no way he could have afforded the streets that would have produced these exorbitant multipliers without first cheating. This may have been true:
"a green building that cost $50k produced more than $200k in rent on a $50million street. A $600k grid building produced $28 MILLION on a $50 million street." They had the bug fixed before many if any people could have amassed $50 million. But the $4 million street he could afford on day 2 or the $6 million on day 3 wouldn't have resulted in a green house giving $200k. Don't be a fool.
http://www.monopolycitystreetsblog.com
@khaki54
" But the $4 million street he could afford on day 2 or the $6 million on day 3 wouldn't have resulted in a green house giving $200k."
A green house gave $200k on a $4m street. Rent was cost of street in millions x cost of building.
Who is the fool now?
i stopped playing this worthless mess 2 days ago. but i keep coming back to the blog! so funny to watch people trying to defend the game, people listing cheaters like tribal is going to do anything about it (they do not act on blog posts in any way), people talking about how mad the game makes them but they keep playing it!
anyone still playing this game "seriously" is a moron. only a matter of time till they make a change or reset and all your work is lost. not if, but when.
playing to show what a joke it is, well that is funny but come on you've proven your point 1000 times over.

Funny how so many people assume IP adresses are the only way to track computers. Anybody ever hear of MAC adresses? ARP? RARP?
I see the leaderboards have been cleared of the obvious abusers. Kewel.
I'm still miffed at losing an incredible opportunity to *really* advance due to the sudden rent change though, but I got lucky and re-captured another good longish street (but not *anywhere* nearly as good as the one I missed out on) I'd owned pre-reset which makes up a little bit for it. Accordingly, I've adopted a "wait and see" attitude.
Oh, and please: no more resets.
While we're at it, here's a suggestion. There's one thing missing I think, from this game, and that would be a "classifieds" section for people wanting to sell a street without losing out to the bank. Right now various web forums are fulfilling this role, but it should be in-game.
This could be implemented as a third option on property cards - "Place a classified ad" (or something). Player submits an asking price, default minimum is face value of street + buildings and highest bid is automatically accepted come payday, otherwise ad stays up for seven days max. Or optionally player can cancel the ad. Also, if the street is sold privately, then it is removed from classifieds.
Seems to me this would make it easier for new players (and others wishing to upgrade) to find available streets. What do you think?
Happy Gaming!
@mario
"Anybody ever hear of MAC adresses? ARP? RARP?"
Anyone who knows much about those things knows that they exist on your local network only. No one who isn't on the same local network will ever see them. The MAC address is a property of the physical network, not the IP network. Thanks for playing, try again.

Aaaaah. Morning. Another day, another ocean of hilarious complaints on the Monopoly City Streets blog. Thank you, Tribal DDB!
WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?!!
@Bruno,
I'm with you.
RESET, RESET, RESET.
Solution?
Just 1 transaction per day.
One day you buy your street.
The second day you build a house.
The third day you make an offer.
And so on.
By the way,
PYT5 is spying on PYT
PYT5 is spying on PYT7
PYT5 is spying on PYT2
PYT5 is spying on PYT3
PYT5 is spying on PYT4
PYT5 is spying on PYT6
LOL
It's day 7, and I have no idea how to spend my money. I got 200M cash, a couple of long streets, but building grids (which seems to be a reasonable choice) would take hours. On the 50M street, a single building still needs a minute. I can make some offers, which either are rejected or ignored. b-o-r-i-n-g.
I can't log into my ONE account anymore. What gives?? There's also no "forgot your password?" link...not that I forgot it. It just isn't working =[
what a hell
I can log, I see my account
but I can not do anything (see my streets), all buttons are inactive
sucks again

Actually not, but yes WE can!!

I have to say that this game concept is great, but terribly developed.
Didn´t they tried it in a close version first, I don't think so.
People complain a lot about multi-accounts, but development errors are far worse, like the one best cheater mentioned above.
I have more than five accounts, which I created to get some streets at my hometown, but i'm not worried to be banned for it, the way the game is right now.
They will never be able to control multi-accounts:
Lots of people play in local networks, like offices or schools, so IP, mac addresses, etc,
will be shared by many.
Email registration, is also useless, since everyone as more than one account, and creating new is to easy...
What they need to do is to make multi-account useless.
They could do this by limiting buys to one per day, and making this a really big term game.
For those complaining about being trashed by others, a question:
Did you find funny, hazarding their streets???
