Nice game, except it was very poorly protected against cheaters, servers were almost all the time overloaded and there were required many fixes to make the game somehow fair.
All in all, I'd say not a good job, the idea really great, but the rest was underestimated which reduced the pleasure of the game.
I have to say that annoucning an ending at this point means you just devalued streets so that all existing bids are overpriced. I bid based on an end date of later than the 9th.

It is a shame that there is no culminating activity or something different to give us a reason to care about the last week. It was always hinted at the beginning that there would be some sort of auction for certain streets or other late game play. Oh well. Too bad you guys keep saying "it was never intended for more, see ya" when there are hundreds of thousands of players willing to play longer.

Chill people. This was always advertised as being on for a few months, I'm surprised it's finishing before Christmas rather than using it to remind people about the greatness of Monopoly but hey ho.

SO DISSAPPOINTED!! This is a great game. I don't think a pay scheme would keep it alive perhaps some sort of advertising. How easy would it be to have even local advertising next to the real street where the business is located? For example building a McDonalds building on a street instead of a green house. Or Joe Shmoes Bar on Springfield St. Amount of advertising dollars could influence building saturation. Sort of like the pogo advertising schemes. Even if advertising was for a limited time make the buildings simply have large signs that change as the advertisers do. I would still play the game. It needs more depth though. CompSci grad

Very disapointed yet another let down.
Sad to see this end, I was getting really into it. (I joined late) What was the point of all of this anyways? This succeeds in making it so only those who started early had a chance of doing anything substansial.
If the point was to gain interest in the board game, you did succeed, but you also pissed off a large number of people who enjoyed this game who are now being told if they liked it, go buy a board game that offers less then .01% of what this offered.
As a player I am really dissapointed. I finally managed to do to proceed in my strategy but the time ran out and it all sux...
as a developer of MonopolyMarket.com I am tripple dissapointed. The trading was/is really live and 200+ members are posting offers each minutes... this shows me that there are a lot of avid gamers and I am not ashamed to admit I am hooked too..
so why end this game? is really this costly for you guys at hasbro?

please reconsider...there are many school children who take business courses and Consumer Math course who are locked into the idiology of this wonderful learning experience...Stopping now would be a devistation to their learning experience...Of course life moves on. However, with many of these students it very well may dampen their thoughts for finishing out the school year (all seniors). They look forward to participating in this activity on a continuous basis. It has become a commodity for them all.
once more, you're changing the rules ... now end is planned for 9th Dec., until this morning it was 31st Dec, and earlier 31st of January ...
MCS is (was) a great game, but the organization was bad (poor about cheaters, restart of the game, lot of chages of the rules while the game was running ).
One more (last) comment : to win the game, you MUST be a kind of cheater (multiple-account player, or using scripts to find streets before the others).
Please valid the test with re-launching the game next year, but fix the rules before and don't modify it anymore, AND make impossible the use of scripts which are avoiding the pleasure of a simple and loyal game !

I'll tell you something though, goofy, this all reminds me of when I used to play Monopoly as a child ... there was always some spoilt brat that had a tantrum because they weren't winning and kicked the board over messing the game up for everyone else whence an adult had to intervene to calm the situation down ... except ... in this case ... it's the adult (Tribal) who is kicking the board over for the kids who are playing. Innit!
It's just great that the game is about to end. I lost so many precious hours playing this! My wife thank's you as well.
And congrats for thinking that a board game will give you more profit than a web game played by millions, using online advertisement like commented above.
When I was a child I often played Monopoly with friends. Sometimes one of my mates would have a tantrum because they were losing. In their frustration they would kick the board into the air scattering hotels and houses and Monopoly money to the four corners of the room.
I never expected the adult(s) who organised the game to do that. They were the ones who calmed the situation and took charge when children lost control of their emotions.
This game was supposed to end in 2010.
Congratulations on your tantrum, Tribal. You have managed to mess with people's heads across the globe.

Well I guess there is no point in playing for the next week. I'm torn between praise and condemnation for Hasbro.
First the Condemnation:
1) You completly failed to anticipate a version of monopoly using real streets would be popular. I don't understand this. Monopoly is one of the most popular board games of all times. Why wouldn't the online version be as popular.
2) Gimping the game such that one could never really be a tycoon. Once you owned a limited number of streets you made no more money on them. It's completly the opposite of what Monopoly is all about.
3) The handling of cheaters. It would have been very simple to program a rule that says on day 2 if you have more than X number of dollars your account gets deleted. Instead it was weeks before something was done.
4) Ending the game early.
The Praise:
1) For putting a free online game for everyone to enjoy.
I spend weeks working my way to a respectable score and earn a tidy sum and get a nice portfolio of streets, and even set up a fansite?
now i've wasted my time (including on the site) AND my money, sorry but I feel a little cheated, my site will be worthless now for a game which will soon by obsolete so I cant even sell the site and wasted my time working my way up.
still its been fun, I hope hasbro can find a way to continue the game, or perhaps sell it to a third party so people can keep enjoying it as so many obviously are.
A real shame for seasoned and for new players.

Considering the problems we are now having accessing streets, I wonder if the early shutdown is related to software, data base coruption or server failure.
Rather than address the issue they are just quiting early. I can't believe these problems were introduced by simply posting a message on the opening screen.
Any way, I enjoyed the game while it lasted and hope an improved version can be made available again at some future date.

I bought 5 not-really-long streets (3-7m each) at the very beginning and did nothing since the 2nd week except everyday login.
However I, such an inactive player, still get into the top 0.5% on the leader board according to http://91.214.169.53/
I believe the remaining 99.5% players are either inactive player likes me, player feels really frustrated with this game and never login more or cheater's shadow account.
Should we call 0.5% (or even lower) successful rate be a success?

You probably already know this, but the servers seem to be hung up. Once you select a street, either to build on, or to remove a hazzard (And maybe other conditions I haven't tried), the game locks up, and after 30+ mins, hasn't recovered. Just an FYI.

It's getting boring playing plain old Monopoly, when I can get on my laptop and play Monopoly City Streets. You have all the GPS, mapping apps & Google Earth app on the iphone. Why can't you bring us Monopoly City Streets to the iPhone?
I have been having problems with displaying streets ever since reading the announcement as well.
Policeman you won nothing, had little effect on the game, and by attacking me made me way richer than I ever would have been. You lose I win haha. Oh btw you forgot to attack me tonight I await your silly hours of time wasted destroying streets that sell anyway. Congratulations on completely wasting your time. I'd guess you killed around 15-20 hours accomplishing nothing. Last laugh on you.

What a great online game... pity you can't just RESET it and run it again. A note to Hasbro: I can't buy your board game as I don't have people to play it with... this online game did it for me!
Why not bring in an advertising stream e.g. Instead of buying a Green House, make it an advertiser like McDonalds, Hilton, etc. I'm sure that little pop ups to promote themselves would be fine.

why are we being punished in the last days of the game , its unplayable, Perhaps you should reconsider the end date to get your devoted players some good , quality gameplay. it would be a shame to have it end with a wimper. Your many dedicated fans await your actions on this. Please fix MCS, let the game play out in the final days, as we've played in the last weeks. Also there are many who would be overjoyed to have their lost streets freed, and the old bids finally rejected.
It just shouldn't end like this. Many of your fans have found friends, rivals, even some enemies in your game, we've created blogs, markets, and fan sites. Please give us some attention and care, we don't deserve to be dismissed and forgotten.

... these are hollow sentiments unless you fix whatever it is that was done yesterday (UK time) to mess up the database.
I've been with this game from the very beginning ... through thick and thin ... it would be shameful of you if you just washed your hands of it now and walked away.
If the corruption to the database is impossible to fix ... then be honest with us ... for once. So that we can cease playing now.

open a street card with an offer on it...leave the card open, click on another street with a BIG offer on it , click on the first street "view offers" and see what happens the wires are crossed, you will get the street offer you cant open

I think they already shut down the game. I can still login, but I've been unable to do anything. I click on one of my streets and it just loads and loads and loads and loads and...
As for the game itself...
It was interesting to play for a while, but the game is rife with cheaters. There's several thousand bots running that buy up every available street, be it 100k or 100M, and the top streets are then passed along to the big guys. (You don't think they found all those 10M+ streets all across the world by search at street level, do you?)
The amateuristic approach by the developers has also put a big dent in the enjoyability of the game. I personally found a 50.9M street, but putting up a building takes a full minute now.. before I tore down 900 small buildings to make room for the Monopoly Towers, it took 2-3 minutes... every time there is a change, the ENTIRE street is redrawn...
This game could have run virtually lag-free with 10% of the servers if the developers had any knowledge of AJAX(Asynchronous Javascript and XML), something any serious webdeveloper would at least have heard of by now. (For instance, building a Monopoly Tower, the server would only send the change back to the street, and the client would only need to perform that change... instead of redrawing 1799 Grid Buildings and 1 Monopoly Tower, it would remove 1 Grid Building and add 1 Monopoly Tower.)
The board game might be more fun, but I better erase MCS from my mind before going to the toystore...
Can you show some statistics infos before end of the game? For example, number of active players, number of servers, how much accounts have been created in first day and so on.

I have spend almost 3 months trading streets on my account, helping newbies, my country players, and of course making profit from that trade.
Yesterday, before servers cracked, i was n15 Global, but after that, i lost 3 positions, i cant reject or accept offers, i cant see my streets or other player streets, i cant buy or sell any street !!!!!
So, game over for me? or u are going to take this game to the end with dignity and solve the problem?
I hope u can fix the servers or the bug problem u created yesterday, otherwise thanks for nothing, Mr. Monopoly, u can simply close or jail my account because I CANT DO NOTHING ON IT FOR THE LAST 24 HOURS !!!!!!!

I know nothing about coding but you could be on to something there. When I click on one of the 'broken' streets from the property list the program transports me back to the account original 'homepage' ... and freezes. This has only been happening since yesterday after the closure was announced ... and may well be something to do with the addition of the 'It's-The-End' notice introduced to all who signed in after midnight this morning.
Whatever it is ... it's a right pain.
It would seem the game designers didn't want anyone doing it but I've been trying to play Monopoly here. Yesterday I was happily bringing together all my streets into the one account and to tidy them all up for Crimbo ... today everything's been brought to a halt because of some stupid bug that's been added in the last 24hrs!
Ho hum.
btw I've been reading and enjoying this blog from the get-go. Thanks for all the advice peeps have given. It has been appreciated.

Since yesterday, I have not been able to get the street card for most of my streets to show up on the screen. This means I cannot see my streets, buy, sell, or build. Please let us know what the issue is and if it will be fixed. If it will not be able to be fixed, then please end the game today.
Has anyone else been having trouble buying buildings and getting to their properties? For me it's just hanging with the hour-glass.
MCS have problem again, it locked my 150,000,000,000 cash, I can't do trade. it is suck game, too many errors, too many policy changing, it is not a fair game.
I don't want to play this game when it restart in the next year.

@Scott Same here, been unable to play and get to my trashed streets, Guess it doesn't matter I am comfortable at the top of the local but no chance of getting to National table. Thanks monopoly for the free entertainment.
The game appears to still be working correctly on one of our work PCs (one very well used PC now). I wonder if that is because the Browser window was not opened and close between the End notice appearing and now.
My suggestion, if you have a browser that is still working, DO NOT CLOSE it, you can Sign Out and back IN but do not close the browser session.
It is been great playing this game even with all it bugs and many BOT attacked.

Well it was a good time, I finally started making the big bucks - after being sabotaged by 3 different cheaters, ruining the game for me a bunch of times, and you guys finally getting rid of them about 2 weeks before the end.... I some reason stuck by this game because it was fun to "own" the streets I travel on.
Please bring it back with more next time! Hell, the game worked, I did buy the iPhone monopoly game ;-)
It really was fun to play, seems now it is defunct and too bad with less than a week to go.
I have seen the board game version, disappointed in the quality of the buildings (should be made of metal) would consider buying a upgraded version of the board game but the current one seems to be made in haste.

I have just one street that has the problem with the hour glass and nothing happening
It is a street split into two
I found that I can get to it if I search for it, then move along the map until I see my properties
Then click on my properties
It has a 30% success rate, but when it works I can work as normal on my street
On One of my problem properties that i was able to find on the map i did the following with success.
Click on the name of the street in the properties list while viewing the street, the houses came up and sometimes the red line.
Click to sell a house, then when its sold the property card popped up And i was able to build a new house.
This didn't fix the card, i had to do this again to get back to the property card again after navigating away. A chance card coming up closed the property card.
Nope. Can't sign in. When I was signed in, couldn't sell buildings...

Two months absorbing fun and completely free
yes great game
I had 3 things I wanted to do
1) Be able to buy the most expensive property (that elluded me until I realised I was paying 100% tax resulting in a missive get rid of roads)
And I achieved it yesterday (yes I am small fry)
2)To populate my home street with one of every possible building (that I can now do tomorrow I hope)
3) Try and get in the local top 10 (that is unlikely but still possible)

seriously, they should make this game a very low pay to play, like 3$ a month, that way they can keep it going, make a small profit and perhaps invest some time and resources weeding out cheaters and improving servers, I for one would not mind paying a small monthly fee to play this game!!!!
I haven't posted here.. but I'm sad to see this game go. Hey, I wouldn't mind paying 5 bucks a month to play this game. How about bundles for 2 and 4 accounts for families playing together?
Oh please don't let this game go, you can also reset the game and make it we have to pay. Then you can fix it, and so on.
P.S. Board Games are loosing value, all of it's now online. Hasbro, if you don't listen.. you risk loosing out on BIG profit. (And what company doesn't like profit?)

how many innocent accounts have been banned? all best players have been banned for no reason. Me and my family accounts all got banned and my sister could't even online to play more than 10 minutes per day.
I started to play this game since 1st day of this game released and i scaned the world myself to find some 80m+ streets. I reach the global leaders 1 months later then I got banned with no reason. The next week all my family members got banned.
the funniest thing is that my friend asked me to sell a 30m streets to him. i sold it for 3 billions. Then he got banned next day. lol

I loved playing this game! It is an absolutely wonderful addition to the Monopoly world. However, I am sad to see that this world must come to an end, as the board game-however fun it may be-will never live up, in my eyes, to the challenge and opportunity of being able to deal and haggle with people across the globe over ownership of the very street you live on.
MCS has such a personal appeal to it (I own the street I lived on when I was born, even though it's my lowest income property!) in addition to the competitive nature of the game, and it is going to be very sad indeed to see such an amazing game, as well as the concept, end when it has such a fan base, and so much potential.

Sorry, I didn't even notice until I read my alerts that the retard had attacked the street. Sorry about that.... Why would anyone bid on a street, and attack it at the same time is beyond me, other than sheer stupidity....
Fairness rule suggestion. Rules should consider breaking up long streets into lots, just like the original board game, and buying a full lot (length) long street will allow to develop. That will encourage more trading and no crazy leads out the gate.
